While the cleaning of ovens is normally quite reliant on heavy de-greasers and strong chemicals, there is a way to do it that avoids harming the environment. Try the following eco-friendly options when you next need to clean your oven:

  • Bicarbonate of soda: Place three heaped teaspoons of bicarbonate of soda in a spray bottle. Fill the bottle with water, replace the top and shake it until the soda is fully dissolved. Spray this mixture onto any stains, and leave to rest for a minute before wiping away with a damp cloth. On more difficult stains, you can create a paste from this mixture.
  • Vinegar and bicarbonate of soda: Lightly moisten the interior of the oven with water before applying a 5 mm layer of bicarbonate of soda. Let this solution sit for three hours, before liberally spraying the inside of the oven with a spray bottle filled with white vinegar. A chemical reaction will occur that should be left to sit for a few more hours. Finally, remove this solution with a damp cloth or sponge.

Remember that the oven should only ever be cleaned when it is cold, in order to prevent the possibility of injury.
